Installation was very simple. It takes about an half-hour, and your cable modem provider does all the work for you. What you end up getting is an NIC card and networking software, and the cable modem which connects to the NIC card. Software is then installed to recognize your card, and either internet explorer or netscape communicator is installed and your done. Everything went smoothly for me.  The person who installed my cable modem said that he had problems in the past installing onto macintosh's.  But my macintosh quickly recognized my card and had no problems. So, macintosh user's, don't be intimidated by this, go ahead and try it.

Having a cable modem is everything you would expect it to be and more.  I believe that paying $40 a month for this service is worth it.  Especially considering that your time spent downloading from the internet is cut down by 3/4.  Also you can think of it this way, the cost of an extra phone line and an ISP is about the same.   Only now your getting your money's worth.  Although you never really get the 10mb/sec download speed as foretold, there is still a significant difference. For example, a file that would normally take 9 minutes to download over a 28.8 modem connection would take 2 minutes on ISDN, compared to 10 seconds with a cable modem.  As of today (2/27/99) my top download speed was 300k/sec.  That's 100 times faster than what I was getting on my 28.8 modem.  Not all web sites or servers can support a speed of 300 k/sec and a lot of the time the maxium download speed can range from 30k/sec-100k/sec.   But then again your always online and can never be disconnected for being idle.   So even if your download speed decreases some you still have plenty of time.   Also I have read that the type of computer you have can determine what kind of speed you get when you upload or download.  Since I am using a 200mhz machine it is possible that I am not getting the best of my cable modem.  It is probable that if I was running on a 400mhz G3 my speed would increase. I strongly believe that this is an excellent service and is worth investing in.
